The routine access to health care in general has been changed, and this includes access to dental care services.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pediatric Dentists are no longer allowed to provide any dental services that are not considered emergency such as:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Regular dental check-up<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Xrays<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scheduled\u00a0 fluoride application sessions<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Routine teeth cleaning<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fixing any cosmetic problem\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Follow ups of braces or orthodontic appliances<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In order to minimize the spread of COVID-19.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What caused these current restrictions of Pediatric dental care services ?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When pediatric dentist work on your child\u2019s teeth, droplets or sprays of saliva or blood are produced in the air. This happens routinely whenever the dentist uses a drill or during routine cleansing sessions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although all pediatric dentists are used to following very strict infection control precautions under normal circumstances to lower the risk of transmission of any infectious disease, to keep both patients and dentists safe. But with the coronavirus pandemic, there is an increased risk of aerosols carrying the virus either directly infecting dental staff, or landing on surfaces, which staff or the next patient can touch. Moreover, this transmission may be possible even if you feel perfectly well, as not everyone with the virus develop symptoms. That\u2019s why you should plan your child\u2019s dental visit wisely amid the current situation in order to help your pediatric dentist focus only on emergency dental care.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What at are the emergency conditions where my child should see his pediatric dentist?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry most recent guidelines, your child should see his pediatric dentist if he is suffering from any of the following :<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pain in tooth or jaw bone<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Painful swelling in the mouth, face, or neck<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gum infection that includes swelling or pain<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Post dental surgery care such as dressing change or stitches removal\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Accident or trauma to teeth or mouth<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Broken or knocked out teeth<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Braces wire or orthodontic appliance that hurts cheek or gum<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>What if I\u2019m not sure whether my child\u2019s condition is emergency or not?\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You should call your pediatric dentist. Most of the pediatric dentists I know, including me, are happily willing to answer all your questions and concerns, and we are doing our best to conduct phone consultations as much as possible and will advise you whether your child condition requires an actual visit to the dental practice or can be postponed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What to expect when visiting the pediatric dentist amid the Coronavirus Pandemic?\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The pediatric dentist will take your child\u2019s temperature\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ask you questions about whether they have travelled recently or if they are experiencing any symptoms<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ask if you\u2019ve been around people with COVID-19<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tell you not to arrive early<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Place waiting room chairs 6 feet apart (social distancing)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Space out appointments<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>What can I do to maintain my child\u2019s teeth healthy in meantime since we can\u2019t go for regular check ups<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Keep your child\u2019s dental hygiene as flawless as possible with regular brushing twice daily and following a teeth friendly diet, as we discussed before, so please check our previous articles on child\u2019s dental health care.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We are all in this together.
